Tips when visiting Cebu City

Cebu City is one of the tourism hot spots in the Philippines. Known for its outstanding white beach resorts and colorful city night lights. The city has a lot to offer to tourists from cheap delicious food to huge shopping malls with lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. When visiting Cebu City, you don't need to worry about communication as Filipinos are English speakers. Anywhere you go in the Philippines, you can freely speak English and everyone will understand you. Here are the tips when visiting Cebu City.

1) Exchange a small amount of money before you leave

Before leaving your country, make sure that you have a small amount of Philippine peso on hand. At least have P3,000 ($60 US) to P5,000 ($100 US), no more than P10,000 ($200 US) in your pocket. This is for your rides (Taxi, Bus, Grab) and maybe food when you're hungry on your arrival. You want to avoid using your credit card as much as possible as there might be extra charges.

2) Don't be afraid to ask questions

Filipinos are very friendly. They are very hospitable and helpful in nature. Don't hesitate to ask directions when you're lost. Although the City might be smaller than yours, it's still huge enough to make you lost. So ask questions to one of the friendliest people in the world.

3) Commuting is easy

Getting from A to B in Cebu City is pretty easy since there's a lot of options you can choose from. I highly suggest installing an app called "Angkas", it's an app that's similar to uber but instead of cars, you will ride a motorcycle. "Angkas" is quite popular in Cebu City as it's cheap and can get you to your destination quick because of the shortcuts and fast routes. There's no uber in Cebu City, but there's "Grab Car", it's actually "the UBER" in the Philippines, it's pretty much similar to UBER app navigation wise. Recently, Cebu City Mayor implemented an airconditioned bus ride called "Beep", it's a bus and Jeepney (Traditional Public Transport) combined. It's the most convenient public transport in Cebu City and it's also cheap, it's around P8 (
0.15 cents) to P10 (0.19 cents). "Beep" terminals and stops can be found all over Cebu City, you can check this link for the "Beep" stops and more detailed routes.

4) Accommodation

There's a lot of cheap hotels in Cebu City. Airbnb is also a nice option. When renting Airbnb, I would highly suggest choosing a condo room in the city center, it's easier to go around the city. I would prefer Airbnb condos near I.T. Park or Lahug, Cebu City.

5) Travel Insurance

It's very important to have travel insurance with you while you are traveling, regardless of where it may be. This is to give you peace of mind while traveling and maximize your travel experience wherever you are in the world. One example of travel insurance that I use is SafetyWing. It's one of the best in the World. It's easy to apply and has great medical travel benefits! Check them out!
